i need to find statistics on the education levels of incarcerated black males.?

im doing a research paper and i need to find scholarly literature, ie journals and periodicals, on the education levels of incarcerated black males. when using search engines i always find info about the education programs within prisons but not specifically their education level when they enter prison. i need some suggestions on search question to find the info i need. or, is my question too specific?

1. i am not sure if this will lead you in the right direction but try census.gov if you poke around the website i beleive it will give you other links to maybe answer your question. census.gov may even give you the answer.

3. Check out the National Archive of Criminal Justice Statistics (http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/NACJD) and look for reports written about education from the 1997 Survey of Inmates in State and Federal Correctional Facilities. You can search their bibliography of publications.
