What is a good chemical to write a 5 page essay on?
I am going to write an essay and i need a good chemical to write about. these are the requirements ∞ tell what is the chemical name and formula, ∞ how is it made, ∞ what is it used for, ∞ what are the chemical and physical properties, ∞ why did you choose that chemical, and ∞ why do humans use this chemical ∞ how does it harm humanity and other organisms. ∞ how does it help humanity and other organisms. Consequently you will create a typed 3 to 5 page paper about this. In addition, it will need to be in APA format, 12 pt. size, times new roman or similar font, double spaced and the references must be reliable sources (Science, The Journal of Chemical Education, Harvard Medical Journal, University sites, like USC Berkeley, etc.). NO .coms or Wikipedia. So what chemical should i do and what places should a use as a resource?

- H2o..we sure need it and there is tons of info about it.
- Iron You can just google it or if you have books you can use those. This is in a lot of things so you can just go to the library and look for science or things about iron. Sorry this is Just off the top of my head but i hop i helped some what.
- I would do the newest one... just found this year, Copernicum... named after Copernicus. not sure how many of those questions you could answer though, considering how new it is. edit: for some reason I thought this was asking for an element. lol. In terms of a chemical, I would say thc.
- I am not trying to be funny here but I would suggest LSD. Had a profound effect on many people and many situations. It would be nothing to find enough information on that chemical to write a thousand page report much less only three. And it is thinking out of the box....professors like that
- Water. It's of obvious importance in biological processes, and has many unusual properties (compared to other substances) that make it special. Just to get you started, you can look into the following properties of water: --hydrogen bonding --latent heat of fusion and vaporization --density (esp. water v. ice) --heat capacity
- Chlorine Bleach. There will be loads of data on it, it's something you already have access to at little to no cost and it's going to be a checmical that's easy to break down into it's components. If that doesn't appeal to you then AmmoniumChloride is another good one but keep in mind that's also what is used in the gas chamber for inmates on death row. Chlorine Bleach: (Sodium Hypochlorite) Cl2 + H2O \<> H+ + Cl- + HClO Ammonium Chloride: NH4Cl As far as resources, a teacher cannot restrict where you get your information. If you can possibly provide, give me your teacher's email address. They need to be made aware of the legal implications when trying to filter sources of education. It is one thing to not allow a direct copy and paste from Wikipedia for instance however to say that Wiki is not an accepted resource, I can understand that in iteself as it's open source so any bozo can post the WRONG info, however there are plenty of people who have published books your teacher would accept that police the accuracy of data on there. They know that wiki is a schoolastic resource as well and typical highschool subjects are heavily audited. That being said, if you look up the reerences that are required and provided in any wiki entry that will cover your rear. This way instead of telling your techer the source was wiki you can say "Understanding the compound chemicals" by E. Starks was your reference because whomever posted the wiki data referenced that publication, etc. hope that helps. Don't these people know the difference between a chemical and an element? wtf?
- Alcohol. End of story.
