What colleges and universities are great for science education majors? I'm a junior now, but i know for sure that i want to be a high school biology teacher. i want to go to a school that is awesome in education, but specifically has science education. I live on long island, NY. i would like to go somewhere in the north east, preferably in NY, but thats not a must. I know Adelphi University is great for teaching, but its a little too close to home. Also, i love music, and thinking about minoring in music, or if science education doesn't work out, switching to music education.

I want to start a 2 year program to get my master's in science education. i know that Teach for America will repay your student loans if you take on a job with them after graduation, but are there any other organizations that will pay for my masters? I know that science & math teachers are really needed right now..
Can I get a PhD in Science Education and teach community college? I am almost complete with my MS in biology and I would like to pursue a community college teaching career. I hear that PhDs have the edge. My grades are excellent, my GREs are average, and I will have had 2 years of teaching biology labs. Will this suffice to get into a PhD Science education program? If not, what do I need to do, and where can I get information on it. Thanks

How can we make science education easier and more interesting for American students? I'm a soon-to-be US college graduate, and I've been thinking about the fact that many of the high-demand jobs out there (medicine, nursing, engineering) are very science-based. However, I am getting out with a liberal arts degree, and even as a child I'd found science subjects to be immensely difficult. There was too much memorization, it seemed so arcane and boring, and required intense study for long long periods of time. How can we make science easier for young people today?
What Universities offer a double major in Politcal Science and Education? I want to study Secondary Education (History) and also Political Science (maybe go to Law School). I know you have to major in history during some of your college year but one of my number one schools (Howard University) may not offer me that. So can anyone list some universities that may offer me that. Thank You
What are some good schools to major in Social science/secondary education, or a good sites that might guide me I'm looking to major in Secondary education, in the social sciences [psychology, sociology, etc] area. I've found that a lot of colleges have these as separate programs, but i've found one of two that combine them. does anyone know any colleges in particular that have good educational programs, AND a social science area? if not, does anyone know a good site to help guide me to the right direction? I usually use collegeboard, but they don't always have the right things i'm looking for, and you can't tell what colleges have good programs, and which aren't so great. this will be extremely helpful to me and my search for a college. thank you in advance.
Luthern liberal arts and science education? I am applying for a job at a Lutheran university... Thx!
How is U.S. science education different compared to countries like Canada and Sweden? Why is U.S. worse? http://www.oecd.org/document/2/0,3343,en_32252351_32236191_39718850_1_1_1_1,00.html According to this international test, teens from the United States scored 29th out of a list of 57 countries. We scored below Croatia and Latvia, and we scored MUCH worse than countries like Sweden, Canada, Australia and Japan. What is different about science education in the United States versus other developed countries? What are we doing wrong, and what are they doing right?
How do I leave math/science education? I have been teaching high school science and math for the past eight years, and I am looking to get out of the education profession. Does anyone have any idea on where to look or where to read on ideas on what to do outside of math/science education. I am looking for something in the Physical Science area (Physics, Chemistry, Math), but since a degree was not required to teach it, I didn't get the B.S. in a specific subject (just a general Physical Science, so I could teach anything). I am just looking for ideas, thank you.
is there such a thing as a masters of science in education? someone told me he has a " master of science"degree in education. i never heard of it and thought it was a B.A. degree. i have good reason to believe this is all made up as he has been lying to me for years. he claims he was not good enough to be a teacher and how they never renewed his contract. then he became a drunk and just gave up on working. i am wondering if this is all made up. this man is weird.
Where can i find free online computer science education? I do not have the fund nor the time to actually go to college. I do have an interest to self educate myself on computing topics. If anyone knows a site that offers free down-loadable text books or even better, free online courses it would be much appreciated.
Why are conservatives so skeptical about science and higher education? So there have been a lot of questions today, criticizing science (not just the scientist from the e-mails) and criticizing higher education like college. I'm just wondering why all the bias against it? Yeah a scientist acted poorly, but that's not a reason to throw out all facts that have been collected over the years. And I just don't understand the animosity towards colleges as "liberal indoctrination" when every politician, even the Republican ones, went to the same colleges as everyone else. So why the complete lack of trust in science and educated people?
What is wrong with science education in this country? When conservatives discuss global warming it rapidly becomes apparent that they know nothing whatsoever about science, and that this makes them easy prey for the likes of anti-warming propagandists or flu vaccine nuts. People don't understand the difference between a theory and a hypothesis. They think climate scientists are part of a plot and that global warming was predicted by Al Gore. They have no idea how sophisticated science is and accept as valid false arguments that are quite literally at a fifth grade level. Some have even said here they even think scientists believed that the earth was flat. So what's wrong? It seems that high school science classes notwithstanding, kids aren't being taught much about what scientists actually do and how the field works. I didn't even see this before you responded to your own silly question. How many posts here have facts and statistics? Obama Sucks, your answer is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Not to be rude or anything, but you have no idea what you're talking about. Alberto, there are THREE BASIC MISTAKES in your response. This is exactly what I'm talking about! You don't understand science. Why? KPK, again, what I'm talking about. You have no idea how science works. Again, why? What kind of science education did you have in school?
Do we have to alter Science Books and Science Education now? I guess supposedly because of this new big bang theory machine they they discovered that protons and neutrons are really not the smallest parts of an Atom's nucleus. I feel like I was lied to in school. I know we are going to have to add this to our science books and teach a new generation what an atom nucleus really contains. Boy I wish I could dispute any science grade I have ever received that tested me on atoms. Would other people be upset about this discovery?
I am a paraprofessional and would like to get my masters of science in education is there an online program? I have 1 year experience as 1 on 1 personal assistant. The child I work with now has Cdls. He is 9 and very challegening. I do enjoy my job, I feel a movement to teaching special education would be good. I would like I online program, for many reasons 1 being I can still work full time and get experience. 2, I have a family and I am 37 years old I'm not getting any younger. The time is now is there such a thing? Is there any hope?
Question about pursuing a career in K12 computer science education.? I am a freshman in college. The education preparation program at my school--and most schools that I have looked at--only offer specialization in mathematics K12. If I want to become a K12 computer science teacher, what steps should I take? A few ideas I've had are: -go with the math education program and acquire a CS minor -double major in regular math and CS and separately go for an education degree after I graduate What should I do? [edit] I am at a Virginia university, and would like to teach in Virginia.
If i have a bachelor's degree in social science, and 9 education credits, can i sit for the teaching exam? I mean, I'm in the master's in secondary education program now, and if I want to be a teacher, then can I sit for the teacher certification exam in New York? If I major in computer science, is the majority of my education about computer programming? I'm taking a computer programming class for QBasic and I'm not too good at it. But I want to major in computer science. Is the majority of education I get for my computer science major going to be about computer programming? I kind of wanted to get certificates in information systems security as well. Any first hand experiences or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Which A Levels for High Education course in Computer Science? Which a levels for high education course in computer science? I have already decided on Maths and Physics two which most universities seem to want you to have. Which others might be important for someone who is interested in a possible career in software design and engineering?
Do you have to have an education in science before opening your mouth about global warming? So much science and math go into this debate that you are stupid if your only justification is what Al Gore and Sheryl Crow have to tell you. Stop thinking you are so much smarter than everyone else and get a B.S., not an art degree, and come back to the table and speak intelligently. Im not saying your IQ has to be above such and such, but you better do your bookwork and know something other than what a biased individual tells you. And this debate can exclude people because facts are not known and proven. People who are not objective have no place in this arguement. If you cannot admit that scientific evidence is inconclusive, then you are obviously not an objective mind. And Al Gore has a bachelors of art in government from Harvard. His scientific background is the same as mickey mouse's.
What are the requirements to teach science in secondary education in Illinois? I will be majoring in Microbiology in college with minors in Chemistry and Secondary Education. Chemistry is required for the major I chose. From what research I've done, I've found that people with a degree in Microbiology are in high demand to teach high school Biology and Chemistry. I think I want to work in medical research. Teaching is my backup plan. I would still like to be certified to teach. I can't seem to find what the requirements for someone with my major are to get a teaching certificate. Does anyone know where I can find this information? Also, what will this minor entail? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Can someone with a science education background help me PLEASE!? I was assigned a standards project for my college level biology class. I have to break down the following national educational standard into 4 to 6 key concepts Life Science (Grades 5-8): Content Standard C: Regulation and Behavior: Behavior is one kind of response an organism can make to an internal or environmental stimulus. A behavioral response requires coordination and communication at many levels, including cells, organ systems, and whole organisms. Behavioral response is a set of actions determined in part by heredity and in part from experience.
Where is the best place to go to college for an education in Computer Science? Im already two years ahead of my class in computer science, having read several books on it over a single summer, I prepare to take the AP Computer Science exam (highest computer science course in my high school) as we speak. It really stinks that I wont be able to take any more classes on computer science until college, because I jumped right to the final and most difficult computer science course as a sophmore, and so I wish to plan for College. If you would be as kind as to not only tell me the college, but the reason why that college is good, I would be very greatful.

When did math and science education become important in the U.S.? When I was going to school everything I learned was reading based. We learned the basics of math and science and that was it. Now it seems, that because we are lagging behind other countries in this area that this is now a major focus. Can anyone tell me around when the change happend and what was the turning point? Terry, thank you. That does make sense. Do you have any information on where I could find more on this subject?
